Mechanical Music Auction in Cologne 30-31 October
By Uwe Breker

Dear MMDs, Auction Team Breker's next sale of mechanical music,
scientific instruments, toys, technology and photographica is
scheduled for 30-31 October 2020 in Cologne, Germany.

The two-day sale includes around 180 lots of mechanical music in
many forms, including cylinder and disc musical boxes, barrel organs,
talking machines and automata. Mechanical music begins the sale on
Friday 30 October.

Particular highlights include two rare station musical boxes, one
retailed by Henri Vidoudez of St. Croix, a large organ musical box
with bells by J.H. Heller and a musical secretaire with 'Vernis Martin'
decoration and interchangeable forte-piccolo movement by George Baker
& Co.

Amongst the disc musical boxes are a 20-1/2-inch Komet Model 240 and
a 17-1/4-inch Stella with provenance from the music hall star Vesta
Tilley.

Musical timepieces and automata number an unusual Viennese picture
clock depicting "The Surrender at Világos", a Berlin longcase clock
with mechanical dulcimer and a musical clock with monkey artist
automaton in the style of Bontems. There are also a number of fine
barrel organs by Wilhelm Bruder Söhne, Bacigalupo, Eudard Hilger,
Theodore Charles Bates and others.

Viewing is possible individually and by appointment only. The auction
takes place online via Liveauctioneers and Invaluable as well as
through traditional telephone and commission bids. Please contact our
offices in Cologne for further details.
