Hello all, More than two years of break, and exactly four years and
four days after joining the MMD forum, I uploaded a new video with my
big and great Olympia music box, playing my new demonstration disc.
In 2018 I bought a lot of Olympia discs from Nancy Fratti -- many
thanks for them, dear Nancy. One of them is the one you'll hear:
number 5245: Papageno's "Song of the Birdcatcher", from Mozart's
opera, "The Magic Flute."
This song we already know from another YouTube video, 'cause Jack Cane,
on YouTube also known as Mermodfreres, uploaded his Olympia version,
which is one key higher than my version in G-major (the original key
from Mozart, by the way), but my Olympia is tuned in F-major.
The optical quality may be worse than the acoustic quality because
I made this video on my own as a "blind user". With this video
I combine a political message. [ Jochen apparently did this recording
with the room lights off by mistake as he didn't need the light on
to play the instrument. The video is black. The audio, however,
is very good. --Jody ]
Also nice greetings go to Mark Singleton in UK, who presents this piece
on one of his early cylinder music boxes. Here is the link:

Enjoy the Olympia, and best collector's regards, from
Jochen Kopf [Jochen Schäfer]
[ * We avoid political discusssions on the MMD itself, but this recording
[ isn't ours. For those who would prefer to skip the brief political message,
[ you can use this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqw9fjvELso&t=259
[ You will, however also miss some discusssion of the instrument and
[ the author's other recordings. The audio quality is excellent. --Jody

[ The Bird Catcher's Aria, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera "Die
[ Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute)." The opening aria for the jolly
[ bird-catcher, Papageno, is entitled "Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja",
[ which may be roughly translated from German as "I am the bird
[ catcher, yes".
[
[ Papageno enters wearing his costume of feathers and with a birdcage
[ strapped to his back. In both hands he has a pan pipe which he plays
[ before and during the song. He sings cheerfully of the pleasures of
[ catching birds, but muses that it would be nice to be able to catch
[ pretty girls too, and to make the one he liked best his wife.
