Matt Jaro and I are preserving and digitizing around 5,000 Wurlitzer
Automatic Player Piano (APP) tunes from both original 5- and 10-tune
APP rolls, and around 3,000 Seeburg H tunes from mostly original
Seeburg H rolls.
Besides the music preservation, each file is also configured into a
MIDI (.mid) file capable of being played on a properly configured and
equipped instrument with a MIDI system. The files will be licensed
at popular prices to those with MIDI-equipped instruments so they
can enjoy a very expanded music catalog while still preserving the
integrity of their roll-played original instrument.
In the next few months -- through a series of instrument-owner
focused articles, promotions, dedicated internet page, news releases,
recordings, and social media posts -- Matt and I will be announcing
the details, and explaining the benefits and enjoyment of acquiring
and listening to MIDI files of this remarkable music. APP machines
have a good size installed base and Wurlitzer-arranged APP music is
a delightful pleasant diversion from the usual QRS masters so prevalent
on most other instruments. The Seeburg H scale, while a much smaller
installed base, is the largest orchestrion built in America and has
remarkable instrumentation and a solo section.
This opportunity should create a demand for professional installation
of MIDI systems so owners can enjoy this large music catalog. We are
interesting in partnering with several professional technicians with
experience and knowledge for MIDI installation. Once vetted, we will
include you in our promotions so interested parties can contact you
directly about adding MIDI. If you are interested or want more
information, contact me as we expect to begin promotions in September.
If you own an instrument and are interested in finding more about these
MIDI files for your instrument, let us know and we will send you full
information as soon as it's ready. Adding MIDI to most instruments
is non-invasive, doesn't affect the integrity or originality of the
instrument, and can usually be done without moving the instrument to
the technician's shop.
