Orchestrion Plays "Don Giovanni" for Tchaikovsky
By Joseph Cieslak

Hello! My name is Joseph Cieslak, I am a orchestral conductor, and
I was recently doing some research on Tchaikovsky and discovered
that his family owned an orchestrion. There is an anecdote in
particular about the young composer listening to Don Giovanni
excerpts at his family's orchestrion. My curiosity has been piqued,
and I was trying to figure out if there's an extant roll of this
still in existence.

Among the information I do know is that it would have been an
instrument probably purchased sometime between 1840 and 1855, and
similarly the roll would have been published sometime in or before
that time frame. I also don't believe it's the whole opera, but
rather, excerpts. Beyond that, I am unsure where (or really, how)
to do research into this topic.

If you have any information on this or know an expert that you can
direct me to, I would appreciate it greatly! Thank you kindly.

Joseph Cieslak
