I have a factory built, 1927 electric Gulbransen Registering Piano
and was wondering if anyone else has one, or maybe has come across
one before. It is fully electric (turbine vacuum motor within
a muffler box by Motor Player Corporation) without the foot pumps,
it has a Recordo expression system (second type with five expression
levels) incorporating a pneumatic mandolin rail, with three foot
pedals (soft, loud and sustain).
The player was partly restored before I purchased it, replacing all
the valves, bellows, tubing and refurbishing the cabinet. Most of the
tubing for the Recordo and operating systems were in the wrong places,
or not attached at all. It took me a while to sort out but is now
operating perfectly.
This seems to be an odd player; I haven't seen a picture of one the
same. It seems to be very similar to the Triano that has four-foot
pedals -- the outer two were pumped if playing manually.
I'm looking for some parts for this player if anyone could help; these
parts are common to most Gulbransen player pianos:
* Left (opposite end to transmission) wooden spool box end, painted
green, fittings not important.
* Tempo control valve, made of pot metal, I think. I need the back
piece of the valve that has the two mountings for the attaching screws,
or the whole valve.
* "L" shaped bracket that supports the stack above the keyboard.
There are normally two brackets at either end and a smaller one just
to the left of centre. It is the smaller one I need.
* Pneumatic mandolin rail controls, either
(1) an on/off switch fitted on the bottom of the spool box, on the left
side of the tempo indicator. The main piece I need is the brass plate
the buttons come through, with "mandolin" or "on-mandolin-off" written
on it. It looks similar to the sustain button brass plate.
Or (2) a push button control on the key slip next to the control evers,
with a brass plate around the button with "mandolin" written on it.
I can supply pictures if needed. Any help would be appreciated.
