Dear people: Matthew Caulfield stated the other day that QRS is out
of business [200611 MMD]. This is not at all true. I wrote QRS at
the email address given on their website, and first thing this morning
received two separate replies, as follows:
(1) "Thank you for your inquiry. We are still very much in business.
The only thing that recently changed for us was our Buffalo, New York,
plant closing. Buffalo is where we produced the player piano rolls
for many years. Our roll production is now back up and running after
moving it to our Seneca, Pennsylvania, location. Best regards,
Jessica"
and
(2) "That information [that QRS is out of business] is false. We
transferred our roll production equipment from Buffalo, New York,
to our main QRS Music facility in Western Pennsylvania, thus
explaining the "rumor" that QRS is no longer in business. Our
equipment was upgraded so we can produce more rolls at one time
compared to the previous one roll per press. We have resumed roll
production and catching up on many back-ordered rolls. Information
contained on our qrsmusic.com website is up to date and accurate."
So, this is good to know. It is reassuring to learn that QRS is still
making rolls, as they have since 1900. It seems that 'report[s] of
[their] death was an exaggeration', to paraphrase Mark Twain!
Best,
