The wire-reinforced hoses that lead to the right end of the drawer
on Ampico A grands are again available from Thomas Binnall, at

Here is an alternative that has worked since our 1923 5'-4" Knabe was
restored in 1976, and is just now requiring replacement. New tubing,
if installed as noted below, does not kink when the drawer is either
closed or open. The failure modes of the tubing after some 44 years
are kinking at the ends, loosening on the nipples, and crystallization
of the material.
I learned this from the skilled and prodigious Mechanical Music Digest
Archives author Nathan "Skip" Woodhull.
Use black latex tubing of 3/8" inside diameter, 1/2" outside diameter.
(This is currently sold in 6' lengths by eBay seller zwgoods, among
others.) The inside diameter is slightly undersize to fit snugly on
a 3/8" nipple.
The three hoses are each installed with an added 3/8" outside
diameter brass elbow in its center. These elbows have a length of
1-1/16" to 1-1/4" on the long side, and are available from John
Tuttle at https://www.player-care.com/ among others.
The lengths of the latex tubing are as follows:
(a) The outermost hose (furthest to the right) is made up of a 7-1/4"
long length between the center elbow and the supply end, and a 7-1/4"
long length between the elbow and the drawer end.
(b) The other two hoses are each made up of a 7" long length between
the center elbow and the supply end, and a 6" long length between the
elbow and the drawer end.
Push the tubing all the way onto each nipple, including onto the
curved section of the nipple if present on the drawer end.
When the drawer is closed, the added elbows should be evenly supported
and should be at the lowest point of each hose. No clamps are used.
