Gavioli Barrel Harmonium With 6 Cylinders
By Mike Perry
This is something I find interesting about the barrel harmonium that
Jan Wich has for sale [200412 MMD]. I recently sold a George Woods
barrel organ that has a lot in common with the Gavioli: (a) it had one
interchangeable barrel with five hymns; (b) it had a keyboard that
could be played manually or (c) you could pump the organ with your feet
and turn a crank to play using the barrel; (d) the keys would go up
and down much the same way as a player piano.
It also had four stops and the size looks about the same as the Gavioli
harmonium. Of the three George Wood organs I know about, all three had
barrel No. 1 [hymns]. I had never seen anything like what I had until
I saw the listing for this.
