Marked Tempo of Ampico "Carnaval" Rolls
By Robbie Rhodes

I wonder if pianist Benno Moiseiwitch played the same tempi at his 1960
audio recording session as he played at his Ampico piano roll recording
session of 1926. This chart shows the duration (elapsed time) of the
four parts of the Schumann "Carnaval" as performed in 1960.

Benno Moiseiwitsch plays Schumann Carnaval Op. 9

Part 1: 1960 Duration: 5 min 16 sec (316 sec) -- Préambule, Pierrot,
Arlequin, Valse noble

Part 2: 1960 Duration: 7 min 19 sec (439 sec) -- Eusebius, Florestan,
Coquette, Réplique, Papillons, Lettres Dansantes, Chiarina

Part 3: 1960 Duration: 6 min 55 sec (415 sec) -- Chopin, Estrella,

Part 4: 1960 Duration: 6 min 45 sec (405 sec) -- Aveu, Promenade,

Note: In order to compare the piano roll to the audio timing, "Duration"
is the elapsed time from the first note "on" until the last note "on".
