Hi all, Back in the nineteen-seventies I modified the drawer of the
1923 Chickering Ampico that I had just restored. I modified it to use
a moving Deluxe type tracking Stoddard Ampico tracker bar that moved
counter to the direction of the roll transverse motion, so as the roll
moved left or right two units of measure the tracker bar moved
one unit in the opposite direction.
The location of the roll and take up spool centers were relocated,
the back board of the drawer was partially removed so that the drawer
could accept an Ampico jumbo roll and its larger diameter flanges on
the take-up spool, and the drawer bottom boards were lowered also.
All of this because I owned 9 jumbo rolls!
I also spliced together the first three of the four multi-roll set of
Schumann's "Carnaval", Op. 9, played by Benno Moiseiwitsch. At that
time I was not concerned with the Tempo because I figured the paper
drag on the increased radius of the paper for the second and third
rolls would be enough to slow the paper speed an indeterminate amount.
Fast forward to today -- I have an Ampico B Mason and Hamlin B-scale
piano and the electric roll drive does not slow down.
I hope that someone out there will tell me what is the marked Tempo
of parts two and three of the following rolls:
Schumann Carnaval Op. 9 p.b. Benno Moiseiwitsch 3/26
Ampico 65733 Part 1. Tempo 60
Ampico 65743 Part 2.
Ampico 65753 Part 3.
Ampico 65763 Part 4. Tempo 65
Thank you kindly,
