Stay Safe and Enjoy the Music
By Al Good
I don't have a player piano as such, but I do have a digital piano
with MIDI control capability. A year or so ago I was preparing a
lecture on ragtime and stride music and the effect it has had in
the development of more recent music such as jazz and gospel music.
I asked Bill Klinger who is also on this list if he could build me
a MIDI card reader so that I could include samples of music played
in front of the audience on our digital piano. There is unlimited
music on the web that can be downloaded as MIDI Type 0 files that
are compatible with the card reader.
Bill built an SD card reader for me and I love it. It was a big
asset to my lecture-demonstration playing and now I am using it at
home to enjoy much of the ragtime and stride music that made player
pianos so popular at the turn of the century. It helps to keep the
boredom away from not being able to circulate in outside community.
