Symphonion Musical Clock Movement Linkage

Hmmm.  I wonder if the clock movement is the original one.  I say
this because of the strike hammer, which is waiting to hit a gong
that's not there and doesn't look like it ever was there to begin
with.

I know nothing about these clocks.  Was the music box supposed to
start at certain hours, or on the hour?  Would the clock and the
music box have been wound at the same time, which seems unlikely?
