Dear MMD friends, I want to sell my restored 1928 Mason and Hamlin RA
(5'8") Ampico grand piano. Therefore I will describe it in detail in
order to get advice on it's selling price and also (possibly) to find
an interested buyer. Photos and video recording are available.
It is serial number 39028, delivered to Akron, Ohio, in September 1928.
I have the complete provenance since then.
The piano has been completely restored within the last 10 years. The
case, originally ebony, has been refinished in a warm mahogany and all
brass work has been refinished. The piano action has been reconditioned
and regulated, including new dampers and hammers, and the original ivory
keys are retained. The soundboard has been refinished and a new logo
applied and the piano has been re-strung. It even has its original M&H
locking key.
The Ampico player action has been meticulously restored. Every valve,
pouch, pneumatic (and tube) has been replaced, (and even all screws have
been polished). Photos of the restoration are available.
The Ampico drawer has also been refinished and all metal parts gold
plated and backfilled with contrasting black enamel. (The plater could
not match the tracker bar color with brass plating so he agreed to do
the gold!)
The piano is equipped with a new custom belly cloth and drawer tubing
covers.
As is highly desirable, the piano plays _quietly_ on the "Subdued"
setting with unfailing repetition, operating successfully on only
5" to 7" of vacuum; but is also able to demonstrate the sonorous
"brilliant" sound for which the Mason is famous.
Piano located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on the first floor.
So please help give me a recommended price in today's market.
Thanks,
Pat DeWitt
