A story was posted here about five days ago about the elevator in the
Sanfilippo music room coming from a hotel in Mexico [200205 MMDigest].
I just saw a reply on a Facebook group from the Sanfilippo Foundation:
there is no truth to that story, and many others I've heard.
The elevator is or was a modern 1991 Otis Elevator, which Jasper
customized with the etched glass and stained glass top. Half of the
dome on the elevators ceiling was from the facade over a buildings
door, and he paid our glass folks to replicate the other half.
If you look at them closely, one side of the dome is slightly smaller
than the other. The iron work that surrounds the elevator and adorns
the trusses above were fashioned after similar work in a train station
in Germany.
Next time you visit, ask me to show you the photo of the train station
where Jasper saw the iron work. I keep the photo by the organ computer
desk. Would make a better story, though.
