By Robbie Rhodes

Matthew Caulfield writes that "the carousel pictured is a 1906 machine
and is far from the type of any carousel we know of in the U.S." He
sent this link to additional information about the körhinta (carousel)
in Holnemvolt Park, Budapest, found at the web site of the National
Carousel Association:

https://carousels.org/psp/Budapest/

The carousel is seen operating in these YouTube videos:

The ornate building and the carousel date from 1906. Originally there
was Verkli-like machine [Viennese barrel organ] providing music during
the ride. In the first years after its construction the carousel was
powered by horses working in the basement.
