My favorite remembrance of Jasper Sanfilippo (and I hope I'm remembering
the details correctly) was how he acquired the magnificent bird cage
elevator in the main music room. If I recall correctly, he and Marion
were visiting in Mexico (Mexico City?) and this elevator was in the
hotel they were staying at.
The music room at their home was then under construction and Jasper
fancied the elevator for it. He approached the manager-owner with an
offer to buy the elevator, have it professionally removed and replaced
with a modern, up-to-code unit. After much negotiating he was still
rebuffed, so he simply (?) bought the entire building and had his way.
Whether he then resold the building I do not know. Perhaps someone
with more knowledge can fill in the gaps or correct any of the above.
