Grieg Concerto: Grainger With Sydney Symphony
By Kip Williams

Another music group I'm in just mentioned this video on YouTube,
in which Percy Grainger performs the solo part of the Grieg Piano
Concerto in A-minor years after his death, on a Duo-Art reproducing
piano player, with John Hopkins and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra
[1978].

It's a nice feat of synchronization, keeping the orchestra's pace
perfect so that the piano can come in at the right moment after the
tutti sections.

Grainger edited the piece down to reduce repetition (the piano or
orchestra repeating something that the other has just done), but that
seems to have left them with all the solo parts, more or less, and it's
an enjoyable stunt. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5bAw9napVY

[ At time 30:53, after the last big chord, Denis Condon is joined on
[ stage by our own MMDer Peter Phillips to acknowledge the applause.
[ How young Peter looks! For an encore the Vorsetzer plays Grainger's
 [ Duo-Art "Country Gardens."
 [
[ The audio (alone) of this performance, in slightly better fidelity,
 [ is presented at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDHbiLpinF0
