Howard Gustafson (raglandpiano@yahoo.com.geentroep [delete ".geentroep"
to reply]) responded thus to my posting about where to find parts for
mechanical music machines now that Player Piano Company, is no longer
in business and old-timers like Doyle Lane and Max Nowicki are dead:
"Saw your MMD post; John Tuttle of Player-Care.com has probably the
largest collection of parts. I don't know that we're second largest,
but we do make a fair amount of parts ourselves and offer them to the
public, mostly cork and leather gaskets for numerous makes, Simplex
valves and collars, blotter paper rings for all makes, etc., Standard
fiber valve guides, lifter discs, fiber valve parts (Aeolian, etc.)
"We have the capability to make many leather/cork/blotter paper/fiber
items if you have a pattern. Oddly enough I've found it best for me to
offer on eBay. If you want to see what we offer just visit the store
"Ragland" on eBay. We also make suction boxes (we supply to Schaff),
auto rewind pneumatics, shutoff pneumatics, cutouts and more."
Dana Johnson also replied:
"For the most part, Doyle Lane's parts are no longer available, being
part of the Herschell Carrousel [Factory] Museum holdings. The next
best reliable sources are David Ramey, Joe Hilferty, Dana Johnson,
Tim Westman, John Tuttle and, to a lesser extent, Schaff, Organ Supply
Industries [OSI] and Columbia [Organ] Leather[s]."
