Music Rolls Disappeared at San Diego Estate Sale
By George Cooper
The "Spirit of San Diego" band organ is now abiding in my garage.
The process of transferring from the freight truck to a Penske truck
with lift gate and then to my garage was a task not for the faint of
heart. I'm glad that part is done.
From the line-up of items for sale in the yard, along with quite a few
other items at the estate sale, I purchased 3 large boxes of music
rolls minus their individual boxes and with lots of dust. From the
pallet on which these and other items were sitting I set the boxes to
the side and covered them with a blue tarpaulin. Besides the fact that
it was raining most of the day, the blue tarp covering seemed to be
everyone's way of identifying their purchase.
However, at the end of the sale when I was loading my purchases the 3
boxes of rolls were nowhere to be found. Perhaps, someone accidentally
or inadvertently included them in their items. If so, I would
appreciate being contacted and the error made right. The only other
possibility seems to be that because the lion's share (probably 98%)
of rolls sold that day went to a phone bidder, the rolls I purchased
were pilfered.
If anyone saw 3 large boxes of rolls being taken from the yard or knows
of a collection that suddenly has an influx of additional music I would
appreciate the information. I'm guessing there were all told 30-50
rolls. (They're assumed to be Wurlitzer 165 but there were no labels.)
