Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) would not, I think, be a suitable
medium for this type of book. They state that "What authors need
to remember here is that KDP's conversion engines will do the
conversion online and ideally you really need to upload your internal
book file in HTML or MOBI. Using other file formats will result in
varying degrees of accuracy and layout in the finished (uploaded)
resulting file." See

Amazon (who own Kindle Direct) state "We accept PDF files, but they
can contain embedded formatting and/or images that don't convert well
to eBooks."
Short-run print-runs of high quality books is now very cost effective.
I often do 50 or 100 copies for customers.
