[ Ref. 190910 MMDigest, Seek QRS 10021 "The Sweetheart Tree" ]
Greetings from The Bronx, Sorry, but I no got that particular roll.
But, if you watch the movie 'The Great Race' starring Tony Curtis,
Natalie Wood, Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk, and Keenan Wynn (just to name
a few), listen to the opening credits and you will hear the piano roll
of 'The Sweetheart Tree' being played.
The song is later reprised by Natalie Wood as she allegedly sings it
to Tony Curtis' character while playing a guitar. (I wonder if they
got the same girl to dub her voice in this movie, as they had gotten
when they dubbed her in 'West Side Story'.) As the credits progress,
they are featured as early Magic Lantern slides -- cartoonie, but
effective.
As the movie progresses, Lemmon's character, 'Professor Fate', is
seated a an organ console, and he appears to be playing Bach's Toccata
and Fugue in D minor. But, as his assistant/henchman Max, played by
Peter Falk, calls the 'Professor' to dinner, Lemmon gets up from organ
console but the organ continues to play.
And as the camera pans in on the organ console, you see the keys going
up and down as the music continues unabated. And then the spoolbox
comes into the frame showing a roll passing over the trackerbar --
a piano roll, at that! See if you can tell what music is actually
passing over the trackerbar.
