Wurlitzer Automatic Player Piano (APP) Changer Rolls Recut Subscription
Over the last several years, we have produced four 20-roll Wurlitzer
Automatic Player Piano (APP) recut subscription projects. The first
three projects have long since sold out, but we have a few subscriptions
left of the fourth 20-roll project that is now being perforated by PlayRite Music.
If you have a Wurlitzer APP changer machine, you are familiar with these
rolls. Each has five tunes and a wire feeder rod attached by grommets
to a red-cloth leader. The boxes are specially made for these rolls
with heavy cardboard and spacers to hold the wire leader rod. Labels
are either copies of the original, when possible, or good facsimiles
using the original Wurlitzer style fonts. The high-quality perforation
is by John Malone's PlayRite Music in Turlock, CA from where the rolls are shipped.
For this group, one of the best roll selections of all the projects, we
borrowed rolls from collectors that are mostly either late 20's or 30's
"0" series rolls or rag and blues red-paper rolls from the 'teens. Many
are exceptionally rare, and none have been recut before. Enthusiasts
of these rolls know how few early rag rolls and post-depression 1930's
rolls survive. Many of the rolls in this project fit that description.
PlayRite music has painstakingly and meticulously gone through each roll
to be sure the music is perfect for reproduction, even if many of the
original rolls are too old and brittle to be played.
If you have an APP changer machine, this is a rare opportunity to obtain
one of the few available sets of this wonderful music. The price for
the 20-roll set is $1,600 plus shipping. They should be ready for
distribution around the end of August. A list of the rolls showing the
labels and most (known) tunes is available. Questions gladly answered.
