How To Make A Wurlitzer 165 Sound Like A 157
By Andrew Lardieri
In case anybody is wondering if there's a way to change the pitch
of Wurlitzer 165 recordings to make it sound as if the tune is being
played by a Wurlitzer style 157, you're in luck and it can be done
in just three easy peasy steps.
1st: Make sure your computer comes with the program VLC Media Player
(I know that mine does).
2nd: Go to the bottom left corner of the player and click on the
icon for "Adjustments And Effects".
3rd: Once the icon has been opened up, open the window entitled
"advanced".
4th: Since a Wurlitzer style 157 band organ is tuned five pitches
higher than a 165, set the pitch number to somewhere around 6.8 or
7.2 percent higher than the default pitch.
Hope this helps,

[ David Wasson showed me a W157 pipe marked "C" on one side and "Eb"
[ on another. When the music roll calls for a "C" the tone produced
[ in a W157 is "E-flat", 3 tones higher, or about 119 percent higher.
[ But when the same pipe is installed in a 165 organ it would be
[ planted as a "Eb" pipe. Thus the W165 plays in concert pitch and
[ the W157 is a transposing instrument, like an alto sax. -- Robbie
