Glen Echo Park Carousel Will Close For Repairs
By Andrew Lardieri
Greetings everyone, I would like to announce that the 1921 Dentzel
carousel with its Wurlitzer 165 band organ (serial no. 3779), located
at Glen Echo Park (Glen Echo, Maryland), will its 2019 operation in
June of this year, not September as usual. The closure is due to the
carousel's building having suffered extensive cracking along with the
building's roofing prone to leaking which could totally damage both
the band organ and carousel.
The carousel is scheduled to reopen in its renovated home in April
of 2020, which will be around the time when I'll be working with Glenn
Thomas and Andy Park reviewing the arrangements for my next and 4th
commissioned roll for the Wurlitzer 165 scale, a special tribute roll
to the classic folk-rock duo of Simon & Garfunkel. Glen Echo Park will
receive their free donated copy of this roll in August of 2020 which
makes the first roll I ever donated to them in the carousel's new
building.
