Over the last two years, I have produced three Wurlitzer Automatic
Player Piano roll, 5-tune roll-changer (APP) recut projects. As
a result of these sold-out projects, 60 APP rolls were preserved
and made available to others who would not otherwise have enjoyed
this music. That was to be the end of the APP recut projects.
But, in the last few months, two collectors contacted me, each
with a few very rare and desirable Wurlitzer 5-tune APP changer
rolls. Each roll needed minor repair surgery to make the roll even
possibly viable to play, but more importantly, most of these were
rare, desirable, late '20s or '30s music that were simply too good
not to preserve.
As I work with Play-Rite Music in Turlock, California, to try to
consider another APP project, I want to see if anyone else has a
similar rarer APP roll in need of recutting to preserve the music.
It is more cost effective for a larger rather than smaller recut
effort, and this is probably the last chance for preservation for
this music.
We are only interested in recutting late 1920s or 1930s popular music,
roll numbers 1900-1999, and 01-0360. Others will be considered by
exception. If you have access to such a roll(s) and are open to
loaning it for recutting, please let me know. You would receive
a copy of the recut roll with the return of your original.
If you are interested in subscribing to the project, please also let
me know. It is expected to be oversubscribed and sell-out easily.
