FS Free: Player Stack From Kimball Upright
By Steven Reed

This is the first time I've posted on MMD. Being kind of new to this
automatic instrument thing, I began building an automatic pipe organ
in 1998, not knowing that anyone else out there was interested in it.

At that time, I didn't know about MIDI controllers, or Mechanical Music
Digest, or who to ask about it, but being an engineering technologist
with an electronics background, I knew I possessed a skill set which
would allow me to design and build an automatic instrument from the
ground up, completely from scratch if necessary, and in 1998 I set out,
determined to do just that.

Spare time and resources being what they are, the instrument produced
its first music in December 2012. In 2016, I bought a large, enclosed
military trailer in which to house it, and by 2017 "The Electric Steam
Whistle" was attending events.

Here is a pre-trailer performance: https://youtu.be/iPOHIyYGt10

Now, in the process of building my next instrument, I have come across
something you guys who work with pneumatic controls call a stack. It's
from a Kimball piano. It has the air motor, roll frame tracker bar
mechanism, and actuators all in one unit.

The instruments I design are all electrically controlled, so it is of
utterly no use to me, however I respect the craft and workmanship of it.
It deserves to be rebuilt and returned to service. If anyone out there
wants it, please let me know and it's yours for free.

It's a beautiful machine and I would rather find a good home for it than
be forced to render it back to the earth.

"Anyone who thinks it's impossible for a machine to produce happiness
out of thin air has never heard a carousel organ."

[ Here is an arrangement I made. I don't know the name of the tune.
