Regarding the October 9, 2018, auction of the Luuk Goldhorn Collection,
conducted in Cologne by Auction Team Breker, some definite conclusions
can be drawn: quality not only sells but when the items offered
represent the zenith of quality they bring high prices.
Luuk's collection reflected a discerning eye and an appreciation for
historically significant items but also reflected mechanical development
from the earliest days through the mid-19th Century. A few examples:
A spectacular miniature harp pendant, a musical writing lap desk,
a beautiful musical seal with inscription (not a fob) and some rare
paper items including Le Monde des Automates on Imperial Japon paper
from the edition of 25 ( one of 5or 6 known to exist). Also some
great small Swiss, Austrian and Prague Musical boxes.
In the interest of full disclosure, I was one of the bidders and
purchasers at the sale.
