Dear MMDs, On Friday, 9th November 2018, Auction Team Breker of
Cologne, Germany, will be offering the collection of the mechanical
music author and historian Luuk Goldhoorn.
Luuk was a meticulous researcher, known and respected by the mechanical
music community for his expertise and his generosity in sharing his
knowledge. Luuk's great interest was the Austrian musical box industry,
which he described in his book "Die Österreichische Spielwerkemanufaktur"
as a forgotten branch of 19th century craftsmanship.
He also contributed many fine essays to the journals of the MBSGB, MBSI
and European mechanical music societies and was an active supporter of
the Museum Speelklok in his home city, Utrecht.
In collecting as in writing, Luuk possessed an eye for the early and the
unusual but his fascination with an object did not depend on its size
or value, but the story behind it and the characteristics that made it
unique.
Luuk's collection encompasses musical snuff boxes by Nicole, Lecoultre
and other sought-after makers, musical gold boxes, pocket watches and
a particularly fine group of Palais Royale sewing necessaires as well
as literature, correspondence, ephemera, musical toys and spare parts
for the restorer.
The 178 lots from the Goldhoorn Collection will be followed by Breker's
traditional mechanical music auction, with the opportunity to bid in
person, by telephone, in writing or live online.
