Interchangeable Cylinder In Junghans Wall Clock
By Gary Martin
Mystery of the Junghans wall clock
Hello everyone, I have posted (I hope) pictures of a Junghans wall
clock I recently serviced to try and get any information I can. I have
seen this music movement in "alarm" mantle clocks but this is the only
Vienna Regulator I have seen with this type music movement in it.
The music movements I have seen in these wall clocks are much smaller,
are not interchangeable cylinder and mounted behind the dial. There
are no markings on the music movement but can someone identify it and
its manufacturer?
The markings on the time movement indicate is was made the second half
of 1911. My task was to service the time movement so I only cleaned the
music movement without any disassembly. I don't work music movements,
honestly the teeth on the combs make me nervous.
Both movements show very little wear for their age. I am assuming the
music movement was made around 1911. The music movement plays the one
tune on the cylinder just prior to the hour strike. It runs very well
and plays a very nice tune.
There is what I believe to be the name of the tune stamped on the
cylinder but it hasn't aged well so it is almost completely unreadable
and is written in what I believe to be German.
The owner of the clock and I both thank you.
