We visited a long-time collector of cylinder boxes at the weekend.
He started collecting about 1960. We enjoyed his impressive yet
eclectic collection, all in tip-top playing condition.
One machine in particular, perhaps the only one lacking a tune sheet,
was a rather interesting mandolin box. No maker could be identified,
but it was in the style popular 1870 - 1890. Perhaps someone may be
able to shed light on who produced it, due to its unusual cassette
type ratchet pawl, integral on the handle. Image supplied.
