Dan Wilke and I are planning an organ appreciation day and picnic for
Saturday, July 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the park in Olcott
Beach, New York (about 30 miles north-east of Buffalo on the southern
shore of Lake Ontario). It is open to any and all mechanical music
enthusiasts.
COAA hosts a rally at Olcott Beach every other year but the next rally
is in 2019 and there are no other rallies in the area this year, so
the rally on the 28th is not an official rally; it's just a day to get
together and enjoy a day of socializing and playing and listening to
any instruments that show up. This is also the annual Old Olcott Days
weekend (put on by the town) so there will be a fair number of people
there -- pretty much a constant crowd passing by all day.
Already, there are organ people expected from three states and Canada
who will most likely bring at least one band organ and a number of
crank organs. The Olcott Beach Carousel Park also features two
Wurlitzer band organs and a daily magic show at 2:00 p.m.
After 5:00 p.m. there will be a pot luck picnic. Dan and I are providing
hot dogs, rolls, chips, and drinks. Everyone is asked (but not
required) to bring something else to share (fruit, side dish, salad,
dessert, etc.). A few days before the 28th, we'll send out a note to
those who want to attend, telling about how many people we expect so
folks can judge how much food to bring.
Out-of-towners are encouraged to come hungry and enjoy the charm and
natural beauty of this lakeside setting. If you want to stay over,
there are motels in Lockport and a few tourist places in Olcott.
We do need to get an idea of how many people to plan for, so please
RSVP to either Dan Wilke, tel. 1-716-825-7266 (evenings) or me. We're
looking forward to hearing from you. We did this in 2016 and it was
a great success.
Regards,
Craig Smith
