An Ideal Location for a Mechanical Music Museum in Athens, Georgia
I must absolutely agree with Gordon Stelter's suggestion that the
now available mill site in Athens, Georgia, would make an excellent
location for a museum devoted to mechanical music [180611 MMDigest].
I was born and raised in Athens, lived there for 44 of my 62 years,
and I am very familiar with the old mill site Gordon referred to.
The location would be ideal, and could attract _a lot_ of visitors,
thus exposing and introducing many people to mechanical musical
instruments who might otherwise not have the opportunity.
With the recent closure and demise of famous museum collections of
such instruments, such as the Musical Wonder House in Wiscasset, Maine,
and a general decline in interest or active collecting, we really
_need_ to establish a well situated and large new museum where more
people can be introduced to these wonderful machines!
Sincerely,
