Ron Babb asked for info on repairing a Holmberg Musical Clock Model MC-17.
We still have ours. However, when it quit playing, Holmberg responded but
did not offer specific suggestions and only stated that they were out of
business. With the software being proprietary, it left us in a real bind
in terms of the usefulness (or lack thereof) of the Holmberg.
Then we got lucky. Given that the Holmberg was of little use to us in a
non-playing condition, we turned it over to our seventeen-year-old computer
guru grandson to see if he could figure out anything. He opened it up,
looked over the schematics s and discovered a broken wire. The wire was
replaced and at this moment the Holmberg is playing. Of course, we are
uncertain what will happen if there are other problems in the future. We
wish there were some easy way to convert the Holmberg to playing some other
non-proprietary software.
We do have the owners manual for the Holmberg MC-17. It contains mostly
instructions on how to play/use it. There is virtually no mechanical or
software technical information. However, if someone would like a copy, we
would be willing to scan it and send you a copy. Our email is rebert@bw.edu.
