Matthew Caulfield thought my original posting about the paper used for
piano rolls must have been a joke.
[ In response to John Chaplain's posting to the 18/5/27 MMD Don wrote
[ that music roll paper is is same paper as used to wrap hamburgers,
[ but without "Burger King" printed on it. I held back Don's posting
[ to ask him by email if he was serious. Don phoned me to explain that
[ he was and why.

I live in an area that was surrounded with paper mills. Everything from
your paper coke cartons to toilet tissue was made in this area. Over the
years several of the employees would come into my guitar shop. I would
show them player piano rolls and ask about the paper. It needs to be
clean paper, not recycled paper, to help keep from prematurely ruining
the punches.
Believe it or not, the actual paper is the same paper that is used by
many major hamburger chains to wrap their burgers. It is a waxed paper
that is very thin. The wax coating is on one side of the paper. Without
this wax you would think the paper was toilet tissue. When Mills Violano
rolls were first recut, it was discovered that the paper under the lid of
some jars was the perfect paper. Since most companies have stopped using
paper in the lids, the paper was getting hard to find. There was a paper
mill in Wisconsin that produced the paper.
