Ampico Rewind Problem
By Dave Krall

A friend (not on this list) emailed me about a problem he is having
with his Knabe Ampico which he uses mostly as an organ piano. It's
been so long since I did anything Ampico I can't answer his question.
If someone here can advise how to resolve the problem, I will forward
the answer on to him.

"I have a minor problem with my Knabe Ampico late A. It's minor
because most of the time the piano is set to play with the Tempo shut
off and is controlled by the organ console with the tracker bar
covered.

"Occasionally I like to play a roll, however, and the other day a
problem developed out of the blue. I've never have had a problem like
this and I'm drawing a blank as to what to check as I have not had to
troubleshoot anything on the system in so long.

"When the T8 hole was uncovered at the end of the roll, the system
shifted as it should into rewind just fine. However, the stack was
not silenced so the keys continued to play the song backwards, at high
speed of course! I can't remember what else or what valve is also
triggered in rewind to cut off the vacuum to the stack. This has never
happened before. Can you give me a suggestion of what to look for?"

Thanks,
Dave Krall
