The Facebook page I recently created is actually called the "Music Roll
Scanner Group" -- so called because it is not dedicated to piano rolls
but to any music rolls!
https://www.facebook.com/groups/174012699878782/
The idea is summarised in the intro:
"Rollscanning was kicked off by the Yahoo 'rollscanners' group, but
that pretty well concluded 10 or so years ago (and started 20 years ago).
That was a major triumph for those concerned. The software it produced
has stood the test of time but could always be improved.
"The hardware to perform the scanning is, however, ancient and because
it used custom-made electronics, there is little or no way of making
more of the original design. However, we've seen the emergence of
programmable micro-drivers such as the Arduino, and a whole host of
"makers' fairs". So, that's something we might build on.
"And of course, what to do with scans. Creation of scans of the music
media (rolls, books, etc - for pianos, organs, anything that uses it).
Sharing the results. And so on.
"All ideas that help such topics are welcome."
