Blower for Organ Pipe Voicing Chest
By David Dewey

Some responses have indicated chest pressures, which are expressed in
inches of WATER not mercury. It all depends on what you are voicing.
Church organs are typically in the range of 4 to 5 inches water gage,
theatre organ pipes can range from 10" to 20" depending on the rank and
scale.

A typical blower for a Wurlitzer theatre organ has a "static pressure"
of usually 20 inches (measured on the main line, un-regulated). Our
church's Orchestral pipe organ blower is 5" static pressure, regulated
to 4.5 inches -- which really is not enough "reserve" capacity when
large chords are played (and the pressure sags a bit). This problem
probably developed when the organ was expanded but the original blower
was retained.

I don't know how much voicing you are planning, but you might find a
small Orgoblo in the used marketplace; however, the motors are _very_
heavy, so shipping would be a big problem. If you were in Northern
California, we have a small Orgoblo at 5" static available. The unit
is about 3' high, slow speed (1100 or so RPM).
