Goldbeater's Skin As Zephyr Skin Alternative
By Randy Hayno

Dan Harrett, if goldbeater's skin is airtight and, most importantly, if
hide glue will stick to it without delaminating, then it should work.

In the 1980s I ordered a batch of "zephyr skin" from PPCo to replace
pouches in a Art Apollo piano. The stuff gave me fits trying to glue
it down. I replaced all the pouches with hide glue. After 24 hours
drying, I tested them for air tightness using a length of tubing.
Imagine my surprise when I blew into them and the pouches literally
took flight and blew away. Nothing would stick. It was like Teflon.

You would need to order some and experiment and hopefully it's not the
stuff I got in the 1980s.
