In respect to those who have and do go to any length to preserve
a machine, I do take my hat off to Richard Oldenberg, of Bellevue,
Washington. I worked with him on many restoration projects for his
collection as well the nickelodeons he had placed in many areas
around Seattle.
Dick would tackle anything. I remember his getting a Seeburg out
of Reno, and he literally swept up some of the piano into bags.
Despite all that's happened to machines along the way, survival
restorations done with love and care (and in spite of some alterations
along the way) provide evidence that we were there, and are here seeing
that these wonderful machines will have a future for generations to come.
