I was browsing Craigslist and just happened across a sold Seeburg
nickelodeon in the Grand Island, NE section. What really boiled my blood
was that it had been refitted with parts that are not even historically
correct, neither should have ever been put on it in the first place! The
photos speak for themselves. This is the description, from the text, it is
obvious the owner had no real genuine interest in preserving the
instrument as all-original.
"Here's an old honky-tonk Seeburg nickelodeon. Tiger-oak case with a
beautiful carved front from a mahogany piano added by me. And a carved
mahogany bottom board off an old 1905 player piano. When I bought it ..it
had no top or bottom boards (the player action has been removed sadly) the
top board once had stained glass in it. and was of course taken before
sold at some point. It has it's original wiring to light the stained glass
from the inside. I put ivory streaky stained glass pieces in the two side
panels on either side of the carved center panel. It had lights on either
side on the colums and I had deco light fixtures mounted and hooked up to
the wiring and they worked ..but someone who was going to restore the
Seeburg with an orphaned player stack..decided he had enough projects.
.(it's not a nickelodeon any more..the guts for the player part are gone
but original lighting wiring is there and intact. He didn't want the
lights I had installed (original lamps were missing)and I took the ones I
installed off before he cancelled the sale. I still have them and if you
know an electrician or are so handy, you could reinstall them they look
awesome on the piano. they will go with the piano if sold. I just thought
someone would like to grab a real deal for a beautiful antique practice
piano or just an eclectic piece of wonderful looking furniture..that
guests could bang out a tune when visiting; haha all notes work..some on
the top sound a bit honky tonk tinny other wise it sounds good enough to
learn on ...if you have a kid who wants a piano. You'll need a pick up and
we could help you load and even help get it in your first floor or walk in
basement with not many steps. I have a piano dolly and it comes out the
kitchen back door . If you need this help we would ask only $50 for this
moving help or contract all my sons or some other reasonable movers to do
it. It has the history of being played by nickels in roaring 20's
speakeasies! a gorgeous piece of history. Awesome gift for someone who
wants a beautiful old piano in their home. it measures' approx. 64" wide
left to right...28" from back to front legs....and 57" tall. typical
upright size piano. the inside lights work and the side lamps are pictured
lay out in the manner they would be mounted on the side pillars.
If you would like to come see it and I will play it for you..or of course
you can...pleas no texting to my phone I don't know how to get text
messages on my new smart phone. It's smarter than I am at this point haha
CL messages or call. thanks..Bobby"
