I am posting this query on behalf of a friend who is somewhat of
a Luddite. He has a telephone but no Internet connection. He is
interested in learning the status of the B.A.B. 66-key band organ
music rolls that are or were used on the larger of the two organs
[the Ruth organ] on the merry-go-round in Tilden Regional Park,
Berkeley, California.
Information in the MMD Archives indicates that the park was ordered
to stop playing its band organs earlier in the last decade because the
sound volume of the organs exceeded California State safety standards.
Wikipedia states that the organ was still not operating as of March
2016, although it had undergone some very expensive restoration. The
late Dan Horenberger and his firm, Brass Ring Entertainment, had been
maintaining the carousel and its organs, until his sudden death just
a year ago.
The Tilden Regional Park operation is owned by the East Bay Regional
Park District, although a half century ago it was one of the three
carousels owned by Ross R. Davis, the famous California carousel
operator. In 2010 the concessionaire operating the merry-go-round was
Terri Oyarzun, P.O. Box 37, Orinda, CA 94516.
Is there any better or more recent contact I could give my friend where
he could find out the current status of the B.A.B. roll collection that
accompanies the now-silent Tilden band organ?
