Ampico B Transmission Control Problems
By Larry Hollenberg

First are a few questions I may need help with. On the B Ampico the
Play/Rewind switch is trying to move to 'Play' while in reroll mode.
When it gets far enough toward the 'Play' setting it can stall the roll
and notes play until the roll resumes reverse.

It also seems that the rewind mode has trouble engaging and now an then
it tears a roll off the spindle. You can hear a sort of thumping of
the bellows [cutout?] as it is trying to engage the gear.

Is this normal? If not, any idea where the issue would be?

I also have a number of notes which were rebuilt the same as the others
but they are striking either barely or not at all in very low places.
Supposedly they all worked before shipping. Any thoughts on where to
look for a problem?

The last is a thought. A friend of mine sent me a Stoddard Ampico
roll. To my surprise the sound is pretty decent. Is it possible there
is something about the coding of the early version that might make it
sound more lively?

Thanks,
Larry Hollenberg
