Regulating The Piano Action To The Ampico Action
By Mike Nichols
Hi from the UK. I have a slight problem with my 1930 Knabe Ampico B.
All was well until I had the piano tuned and the piano action removed
and adjusted. When the piano action is on the bench all is well but
when fitted into the piano all of the hammers are slightly raised.
It seems that the player action stack needs to be lowered by about
1/16th inch as it is the stack that is pushing on the piano action.
I have looked under the piano and there are three screws at each end
of the stack, two have locking nuts which are only finger tight and
the third is what looks like a wood screw. If this is the adjustment,
how do I proceed and does anything else have to be removed or loosened?
I am thinking particularly of the wooden cover that covers the stack or
any other hidden fixings.
Thanks all for your help.
