Hello -- There have been periodic postings here from people seeking
QRS Automatic and/or Apollo Red X rolls, which use the same expression
coding. These rolls seem to be very difficult to find as I too am
looking for them and have found very few, especially since the recuts
from BluesTone appear to be unavailable anymore.
That being said, I have three original rolls that I believe have never
been recut by anyone before, and which I will gladly offer to lend to
anyone interested in scanning and recutting them.
These rolls are:
(1) QRS Automatic 100087
Tango Medley
Intro: I'm On My Way To Mandalay; Get Out and Get Under;
Apple Blossom Time In Normandy; Girl In the Heart of Marylan
One-step, Two-step, Turkey Trot or Tango
Key of B-flat
Arr. and Played by Joe Collins
(Note that I associate "tango" with "music you can envision people
dancing to with roses in their teeth". None of these songs sound
anything like that, but it is a lively roll that I enjoy nonetheless.)
(2) QRS Automatic 300002
Stille Nacht (Christmas Song)
Arr. and Played by Lee S. Roberts
Gruber
This roll does not make very extensive use of the expression
capabilities, but I imagine it is one of likely very few
Christmas-themed titles in this format.
(3) Apollo Red X X-7092
Bullets and Bayonets
March
John Philip Sousa
Pub. by G. Schirmer, 1919
Clark Orchestra Roll Co.
DeKalb, Illinois
A very lively Sousa march that does use the expression coding fairly
well. Also a title that I have not already seen a million 88-note QRS
copies of, so perhaps it's among the lesser-known Sousa compositions.
If there is sufficient interest to warrant recutting any or all of
these titles, I will send them to anyone on MMD with the ability to do
the work and make them available at reasonable cost to people who are
looking for this format of roll.
Note that the rolls are in good playable condition now, so the scanning
process will not involve dealing with crumbly and deteriorated paper.
However, they are all 90+ years old already, so I personally would be
interested in fresh new copies as well. Count me as being on the
interested list for recuts.
