Rebuilding National Coin Piano
By Tim L'Amoureux
After a long hiatus, I'm starting work on my National Coin Piano (NCP).
The first problem I encountered was that the main round leather drive
belt keeps jumping off the vacuum pump's large wooden pulley. The
previous owner used a plastic idler pulley with a much too weak spring
in an attempt to keep the tension. Unfortunately, this does not work
very well for a number of reasons. I'd like to return it to what was
original, but there's just so little information about these instruments
that I was hoping someone out there in MMD-land might be able to help.
So here's a few questions. I'm sure more will be posted later.
1. Is there supposed to be an idler pulley assembly mounted on the pump?
My NCP has the aluminium frame pump. Note: There is an idler pulley
assembly on the round leather belt that drives the roll changing Ferris
wheel; is this the same assembly that should be on the vacuum pump?
2. Is there supposed to be an idler pulley at all between the motor and
the vacuum pump?
3. Does anyone have any technical paper work on the National Coin Piano
or information on where I might locate some?
4. Here's a long shot: Does anyone have any extra supply spools for NCP
rolls? I could use about a dozen.
Thanks for any help.
