Just in time for Summer, we are pleased to release three great new
Wurlitzer 165 band organ rolls.
The first, roll 6877, arranged by Andy Park, is a classic "carousel"
roll, meaning it is in the finest Wurlitzer tradition of having a
variety of fox trots, waltzes, classical, marches, and ragtime. Most
of these tunes will be familiar, or certainly enjoyable. Many of the
selections were chosen by Wurlitzer band organ roll historian Matthew
Caulfield who has pleased many roll buyers for years with his ability
to select just the right amount of everything for an enjoyable roll.
The second, roll 6878, arranged by Rich Olsen is a unique compilation
of Wurlitzer "lost tunes". This is the same virtuoso arranger whose
untimely passing just a couple years ago shocked the band organ world.
Rich had arranged about 50 unreleased "lost tunes" that were shown on
Wurlitzer 165 band organ rolls that appeared in the original Wurlitzer
catalog, but none of the rolls were known to exist. Rich, a student of
Wurlitzer's arranging style, arranged these "lost" tunes as he believed
Wurlitzer did. We cleaned them up and formatted them, and are pleased
to release the first 10 tunes on this roll, as a tribute to Rich Olsen.
The third roll, 6879, was commissioned by a lover of the great Paul
Whiteman's late 1920's big band. He wanted a roll with some of the
Whiteman band's best arrangements on a Wurlitzer 165 band organ roll,
in the style played by Whiteman. Arranger Andy Park was glad to
oblige.
