ANGELUS ARTRIO ARTISTS AND COMPOSERS
by Ed Hayden, April, 1971
For a third part is this article/listing published originally in the
AMICA Bulletin for April, 1971, as authored this time by Ed Hayden
himself.
The original was set in very small type so as to fit onto half a page,
and so resultantly was not all that clearly reproduced. Due to this
I have re-set the article completely for viewing/printing in standard
8.5" x 11" size, comprising in all three pages. And thus as such,
the entire becomes legible, interesting and useful. As I have not
yet looked, I do not know if Ed Hayden published more later on.
It is quite possible that he did.
Of course, the Petrak RPRF Catalog for Artrio-Angelus (no longer
available on-line or, as I was unable to find it) was created with
regard to classical works solely, this according to the notice showing
at it's beginning, and so as a result, it omitted the important
"lessers" of popular and dance music record-rolls.
Here, with Ed's first listing, we can see the delicious possibilities
in just the George Gershwin area plus, some likely tantalizing
interpretations of no-less-than Eubie Blake himself.
At the end, on page three, with no little humor Ed makes clear to
the reader his absolute confidence in the coming primacy of the
Artrio-Angelus. (From this distance of time and place, who are we
to disbelieve?)
