To add another 2 cents -- When it comes to original piano bass strings,
mainly for player pianos, I have installed countless sets and I have
kept copies of the sizes. It appears that companies changed scales
slightly over the years.
Sydney Beales changed; it is difficult to find two players with the
exact same scale. On the very small Wurlitzer player (commonly known
as the studio model) the last four notes were the same gauge, from the
break.
I have an issue with original when they keep on changing. The same
goes for Gulbransen, from steps and stairs, cut-ups and unit models
(I am using Australian terms).
The same goes for the other piano manufacturers. I have the proof on
paper. But saying this, it may be different in the USA. Australia was
a testing area for players. Gulbransen used to send a spare stack with
every player. We also had the Gulbransen built-in stack.
