FS Free: Hamilton Grand Licensee in Michigan
By Jeff Mason
Free for the taking: a Hamilton Style 292 5-foot grand with a Welte
Licensee player. The cabinet is very respectable, the plate appears
to have been re-gilded and restrung. It appears that at some point the
piano was rebuilt. It's in good condition but could use new key tops.
It plays well and holds a tune nicely at A=440.
I do not believe the player was re-built or if so it was some time ago.
The hoses appear to have been replaced. The bellows cloth is getting
stiff, however the player functions; I suspect it has leaks. The motor
was serviced when I got it and runs well.
The serial number in the piano is 12995. It would seem that the serial
number may have been altered or stamped in incorrectly when the plate
was re-gilded. The reason I think that is the black lettering is faint
and not as dark like you would expect.
My tuner said he had difficulty determining the age from the serial
number; he personally thought 1917. He looked in the Hamilton listing
and the Baldwin as well but neither seems correct. He told me to go
with 1905, but style-wise it doesn't look to be that old.
I need to re-home this piano and would be happy to give it to
someone from MMD for the moving. It is on a first floor and includes
a bench. You may call my cell phone at 1-517-789-5622 or e-mail me at

I will gladly forward photos. I am located in Jackson, Michigan.
