Last Friday, my dad and I paid a visit to Casino Pier in Seaside
Heights, New Jersey, and met up with Barbara Charles of the National
Carousel Association and Todd Goings of Carousels And Carvings.
Todd was there to evaluate the condition of the 106-year-old carousel
(soon to be 107 years old). This is a crucial part of the process for
moving the carousel and Wurlitzer 146-A band organ with bells into a
brand new facility.
The township of Seaside Heights is in the process of developing a plan
to house the carousel in a new building, to secure it from extreme
natural disasters such as hurricanes and ensure that it is in Seaside
for many generations to come. Fundraising is needed for restorations
and repairs look for more news in the future.
